A War Merit Cross First Class without Swords by Friedrich Orth. (Kriegsverdienstkreuz I. Klasse ohne Schwerter). Instituted October 18th 1939. (c. 1940 issue). Constructed of silvered tombak, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with pebbled arms and a central mobile swastika, the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and vertical banjo style pinback meeting a round wire catch, the pinback maker marked 15 for manufacture by Friedrich Orth of
